China
Chihli (Pei Yang Arsenal). Kuang-hsu Dollar Year 24 (1898) MS64 NGC, KM-Y65.2, L&M-449, Kann-191, WS-0616. Dragon with eyes in relief. A very Choice Mint State example of this popular provincial issue. The strike is superb, with all of the details on the dragon clear and well-defined. But the obverse, and reverse, are fully lustrous, with bold-white color and only the slightest hint of golden toning around the peripheries. This piece is the plate coin for the reference book, "Top Chinese Coins." One of the finer known examples of this conditionally very rare issue.
