People's Republic gold "Dragon and Phoenix" Proof Pattern 200 Yuan 1989 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Unlisted in KM and Cheng. Produced at the Shenyang mint, the 1989 issues appear to have been a type of pattern issue for the 1990 Dragon & Phoenix gold 200 Yuan. The 1990 issue was struck in moderate quantities, with 2,500 pieces authorized, but some list a mintage of 2,538 pieces. The 1989 gold 200 Yuan, regardless of the reason for this incredibly small mintage, had very few examples produced. We knew of only 2 pieces before this piece surfaced. Only a single piece (this coin) has been certified by NGC and PCGS combined. One of the great modern rarities of People's Republic coinage.
