Sudan. Republic silver "Year of the Child" Proof Piefort 5 Pounds AH 1401 (1981) PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Barcelona mint, KM-P17. Mintage: 2,587. Illustrating two children tossing a ball in front of Mahdi's Tomb, a famous Sudanese monument located in the city of Omdurman. Despite its high listed mintage, this type is rarely seen in Piefort format, suggesting many, if not most of original mintage was never released. This example is the single finest graded by NGC and PCGS combined.
