Corinthian Large Rare Aryballos; ca. 6th Century BC. The frieze features four Komast dancers. Rays on the shoulder and concentric circles on the top of the base. To the ancient Greeks, dance was of immense importance religiously. Dance was used as an expression of intense emotion, and performed in order to please the gods. There were specific dances for particular reasons, like celebrating a victory, or celebrating and making offerings to certain gods and goddesses. No restoration. Ex Harlan J.
