CELTIC, Northeast Gaul. Ambiani. Late 2nd to mid 1st century BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 6.19 g, 12 h), 'statère biface au flan court' type. Devolved and disjointed laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Celticized horse galloping to right, horseman transformed into fibula-like figure; before, eye-shaped ornament and pellets in annulets; below, star and pellet above ornamented ground line. DT 163 var. (differing reverse symbols). LT 8603 var. (no star). SLM 284 var. (differing symbols). A very rare variety, perhaps unpublished. A lustrous, sharply struck and very attractive coin. Good extremely fine.
