Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.83 g, 2 h), Rome, M. Durmius, moneyer, 19 BC. CAESAR AVGVSTVS Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. M DVRMIVS / [I]II•VIR Lion attacking stag to left. BMC 63. Cohen 431. RIC 318. Very attractively toned and of fine style. About extremely fine.

From an old Viennese collection, formed in the 1950s and 1960s and in 3rd generation family possession since.

The reverse type of this issue was copied from the early 3rd century BC coinage of Velia, perhaps to serve as a speaking picture for the origin of Durmius' family.
