Carausius, Romano-British Emperor, 286-293. 'Antoninianus' (Silver, 24 mm, 3.52 g, 7 h), 'C' mint (Camulodunum?). IMP CARAVSIVS P F AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Carausius to right. Rev. LAETIT AVG Laetitia standing front, head to left, holding wreath in her right hand and anchor in her left. Cf. Cohen 116 var. (differing obverse legend) and RIC 250 (both in base metal). A very unusual piece struck in good silver. Die break on the obverse and with a minor flan crack, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
What makes this coin particularly interesting is the fact that it was struck in good silver, serving perhaps as a trial strike for the very rare denarii from the 'C' mint.
