UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 20 mm, 6.32 g, 7 h), imitating Marcus Aurelius, 161-180. [...]DNENΛI ΛVN[...] Laureate head of Marcus Aurelius to left. Rev. N[...]ΛNDNΛΛ / VIIIIN[...] Female figure standing front, head to left, holding patera in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left; to left, lighted altar (or serpent coiled round altar?). With original suspension loop attached. Scratch on the obverse and the loop deformed, otherwise, good fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

The reverse of this coin apparently mixes up different types: the cornucopiae and the lighted altar are reminiscent of Annona (Calicó -, but cf. NAC 84, 20 May 2015, 1032), but the legend in the exergue clearly derives from Marcus' common Salus reverse (Calicó 1908-1922).
