UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Mid 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 20 mm, 6.32 g, 1 h). MNOY MININ Laureate, draped and cuirassed imperial bust to right. Rev. VNID [.]IIN[.]IN Uncertain figure seated right, holding long scepter in his/her right hand and patera in his/her left. Holed and with some bangs and scuffs and the flan hence somewhat wavy, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

While the vigorous portrait reminds this cataloguer of Caracalla, it could just as well be Probus or one of the Tetrarchs. The 'Barbarian' artist may have had any of the numerous bearded emperors of the 3rd century in mind, or perhaps he simply crafted what he considered to be a 'typical Roman' on his obverse die.
