CELTIC, Southern Gaul. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd century BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 4.19 g), imitating Rhode. Celticized head of Persephone to left, wearing wreath of grain leaves and triple pendant earring; before, traces of uncertain legend. Rev. Rose seen from above, with a large central pellet and divided into four segments with floral and cloverleaf patterns. Flesche -. LT -. SLM -. Of the highest rarity and of great interest. A wonderful, toned piece with a particularly impressive reverse. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Keltika Collection, Switzerland.

This is certainly one of the most sophisticated Celtic adaptations of the rose of Rhode, which has evolved into a complex and multilayered design of great geometrical beauty.
