SIKH EMPIRE: AR rupee (9.23g), Peshawar, VS1891//1891, KM-98.1, Herrli-13.01.04, first type, without the border of dots around the pipal leaf, few nicks, nice overall, Very Fine, RR. The weight of this piece corresponds to the contemporary Afghan rupee of about 9.2-9.4 grams, the weight of the last Barakzay rupees of Peshawar, struck anonymously by Sultan Muhammad Tala'i AH1247-1249. It is likely that the border of dots added later in VS1891 (began about 15 April 1834, near the end of AH1249) represent a reduction of the Peshawar rupee weight to about 8.4-8.5 grams. In order to confirm this theory, the weight of more Peshawar VS1891 rupees without the border of dots is needed.

Estimate: 400-500 USD
