WAHHABI SHARIFS OF MAKKA: Yahya II b. Surur, Emir & Grand Sharif, 1803-1827, AE ¼ mahmudi (5.38g), Makka, AH1240, A-U1160, mint on obverse, date on reverse, bold strike, lovely Very Fine to Extremely Fine, RRR, ex. Ken Bovenkamp collection. Struck circa AH1218-40 possibly by Muslim manufacturers from India that came to Arabia to prepare these coins as they are rather heavy and resemble contemporary copper paisas of western India. This type was accidentally listed as a silver ½ mahmudi in the 3rd edition of the Checklist.
