Bolivian government interests supported the construction of a railway between Oruro and the Bolivian capital, La Paz, and this line was opened in stages between 1908 and 1913. This line was constructed to meter gauge, and was leased to the Ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia (FCAB).
