BAHRI MAMLUK: Baybars I, 1260-1277, AV dinar (5.08g), al-Qahira, AH (65)9, A-880, ruler cited as al-sultan al-malik, standard type, with the lion below the obverse and the mint name both above the reverse field and in the reverse margin, date off flan, AU, R, ex Gamal Amer Collection. Balog's listing of gold coins of Baybars I is woefully incomplete - hundreds more have appeared in auctions since Balog's book was published in 1964, and new research is desperately needed to sort out the complex gold coinage of Baybars I.
