GREAT MONGOLS: temp. Chingiz Khan, 1206-1227, AE burhani broad dirham (6.93g), [Marghinan], ND, A-1968M, without mint and date, citing only the caliph al-Nasir on obverse, the kalima on reverse, arranged as on the Qarakhanid dirham of Marghinan 602, unpublished and the 3rd reported example, and the first to reveal the denominational term burhani, Fine to VF, RRR. The only late Qarakhanid copper dirham of Marghinan is in the name of Husam al-Din Qutlugh Toghan Khaqan on the obverse (type A-3424). This piece is of identical design and arrangement, but is totally anonymous except for the name of the caliph al-Nasir. It was likely struck during the lifetime of Chingiz Khan, judging by style and calligraphy.
