EPEIROS. Ambrakia. Circa 360-338 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 8.27 g, 3 h). A Pegasus with curved wings walking to right. Rev. Head of Athena to left, wearing Corinthian helmet with a neck flap; before neck, Δ; to right, the infant Iacchos squatting facing, his right hand raised. Calciati 87. HGC 3.1, 212. Nicely toned. Obverse struck from the usual worn die, otherwise, good very fine.

Iacchos was a minor deity said to be the son of Zeus and Demeter and was often identified with Dionysos, perhaps because of the homophony of the names Iacchos and Bacchus. He played a role in the Eleusinian festivals where he was the leader of the processions.
