CYCLADES, Naxos. 4th century BC. (Bronze, 10.5 mm, 1.12 g, 7 h). Bearded head of a satyr to right. Rev. N Kantharos. Nicolet-Pierre, Naxos II pl. IV, 6. SNG von Aulock 5761 (Nagidos in Cilicia). Very rare. Apple green patina. scattered earthen deposits. Very fine.
Ex Classical Numismatic Group MBS 60, 22 May 2002, 601 and Classical Numismatic Group 35, 20 September 1995, 241 (both as Cycladic Naxos).
Nicolet-Pierre notes that this issue is difficult to attribute. It is catalogued by von Aulock as being from Nagidos in Cilicia, yet it could very well be from the Cycladic island of Naxos, which is how it was attributed when previously sold by CNG. So far no known find spots have been recorded.
