CIMMERIAN BOSPOROS. Pantikapaion(?). Circa 480-450 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7.5 mm, 0.24 g, 1 h). Facing head of lioness, viewed from above. Rev. Grape bunch within dotted incuse square. MacDonald -. Tzamalis 56 (Uncertain Thraco-Macedonian mint). Good very fine.
This interesting type seems to fit stylistically with the earliest issues of Pantikapaion, yet it is not included in MacDonald's superb study of that mint's coinage. Tzamalis includes it in his catalogue of uncertain Thraco-Macedonian issues but does not posit a mint.
