Olympic items
Helsinki 1952. Olympic Games Torch. Silvered brass. Has been used at the Helsinki Olympics Torch Relay (from which there are some marks and other traces of wear). Extremely rare. Only 22 torches were produced for the Helsinki Olympics. 15 of them in silver and 7 in silvered brass. One additional silver torch was produced after the Games. Some of the silver torches disappeared in Greece. One of the silvered brass torches was presented to Finnish Olympic Committee chair Erik von Frenckell while the 6 other were given to the Helsinki Torch committee members. The torch now offered for sale comes from the estate of one such committee member. This Torch was sold at Holmasto auction 150 for the hammer price €195,000 but was returned to the consignor when the Finnish Board of Antiquities decided not to award an export license for it. NB!
