VENEZUELA

Republic, 1823-. Order of Francisco de Miranda (3 medals), created in 1934 (order with three classes since 1939). Grand Cross set including: a grand cross badge in silver gilt and red enamels, 58 x 39,5 mm, 35 g, with full sash ribbon; a grand cross star in silver gilt and red enamels, on back the maker's mark Olsven Hecho en Venezuela and hallmark 925, Ø 79,5 mm; the corresponding miniature in silver gilt, with ribbon, 12 x 18 mm. The Order is named in honour of Francisco de Miranda (1754-1816), who fought for the American and in the French Revolutions. In 1806, he proclaimed the Venezuelan Republic. Captured by the Spanish, he died in prison in Cadiz on July 4, 1816.
