Struck in 18kt gold, edge impressed 140. Chard was a British army officer who received the Victoria cross, the highest military medal, for his role in the defence of Rorke's Drift in January 1879 where he repulsed successfully an assault of Zulu warriors with a small British garrison of only 139 soldiers.
