Qing Dynasty. Wen Zong (Xian Feng) Pattern (Mother Coin) 100 Cash ND (March 1854-July 1855) Certified 85 by Gong Bo Grading, Board of Revenue mint (North Branch), cf. KM-Pn41, FD-2430 (for standard type), Hartill-22.711 (same), Jen-1618, Shanghai Museum-1715. 50.6mm. 50.7gm. A notoriously challenging denomination to locate in this Pattern (mu qian) format, with this being the first such example we have offered. Boasting the crisp reliefs that make these already rare pieces so aesthetically desirable, the present offering further adds an antique hazel patina, which lightens to a slightly more brassy hue atop the raised designs. While mother coins are sometimes characterized by tooling from hand-finishing in the recesses, no such marks appear here, with even filing marks seeming mild and inconspicuous on the rims. All-in-all, a wholly desirable piece, and one sure to fill a hole in even advanced Cash collections.
