Hsüan-t'ung silver Pattern 1/2 Dollar (50 Cents) ND (1910) MS62 PCGS, Tientsin mint, KM-Y23, L&M-25, Kann-220, Shih-B5-2, WS-0037, Wenchao-99 (rarity 1 star), Chang Foundation-Unl. By Luigi Giorgi. A superbly preserved rendition of one of the few collectible Imperial 50 Cent issues, this type being the most frequently encountered, almost always in lesser tiers of certification; seemingly confirming the assertion that the 1/2 Dollar issues were meant and released for circulation whereas the others remained true Pattern issues. The piece at hand endures as an impressive survivor laden with Prooflike appearances; steely hues and reflectivity pervading both faces, resulting in near-medallic features that project boldly towards the viewer, indicative of an appreciable state of preservation. Despite a small planchet imperfection to the obverse (reverse as holdered), the piece's advanced visual character is unrivaled, distinguished by a mottled silty patination. A charming example all-in-all, besting even those from noted collectors Irving Goodman and Norman Jacobs, and wholly deserving of placement in a world-class cabinet. From the Tony Ma Collection
