Kweichow. Republic "Auto" Dollar Year 17 (1928) VF Details (Cleaned) PCGS, Chengdu mint, KM-Y428, L&M-609, Kann-757e, WS-1109, Wenchao-1062 (rarity 2 stars). Two blades of grass variety. One of the earliest and most collectible issues to feature an automobile, the Kweichow "Auto" Dollar displays provincial governor Zhou Xicheng's pride in not only his car but the efforts of his province in the completion of the region's first highway, a monumental feat and key goal in the modernization efforts of not only this relatively rural, mountainous region, but greater China. Though lightly cleaned as the majority of these that come to market seem to be, the piece possesses pleasing pewter patination across both faces and will make for a wonderful inclusion to any provincial type collection.
