Republic Yuan Shih-kai Dollar Year 3 (1914) AU58 PCGS, KM-Y329, L&M-63E, cf. Kann-649 (for prototype), WS-0174-18. Curly haired or "Hunan" variety. A minimally available variety of the prolific Yuan Shih-kai Dollars of 1914, distinguished by a clear difference in rendered style of the leader, notably the wavy or curly hair and distinct style of the characters. A bolder representative witnessed at the cusp of a Mint State designation, precluded from finer designations by the presence of exceptionally mild friction to the sitter's cheek, obscured by a pleasing and pervasive golden undercurrent and underlying luster. Of the thousands of certified examples of the year 3 Dollars, only a small fraction, less than 100 total, of this variety have been submitted to NGC and PCGS, with only 8 in finer certified conditions.
