Republic silver Pattern "Dragon & Phoenix" Dollar Year 12 (1923) MS62 NGC, Tientsin mint, KM-Y336.1, L&M-80, Kann-680a, Chang-CH242, WS-0113, Wenchao-884 (rarity 2 stars), Shi Jiagan Collection-Unl., Shanghai Museum-606. Large characters variety. A beautiful and well-known issue within Chinese numismatics, coming highly sought-after due both to its absolute rarity as well as strong aesthetic appeal. While technically the "more available" of the two character varieties for the issue, this large characters issue nonetheless comes heavily coveted when located on the cusp of choice certification, with many survivors having suffered from past cleaning. Despite the presence of some exceedingly minor wisps in the fields detectable under magnification, the offering retains full multi-point luster which ignites a pronounced champagne backlight across the surfaces.
