Empress Dowager Ci Xi gold Fantasy 5 Dollars ND UNC Details (Filed Rims) PCGS, KM-X200, Kann-B90, WS-Unl., Wenchao-1198, SHI-Unl. A type that shows an immense degree of refinement throughout its design, particularly in the portrait of the Empress Dowager. Showing few surface marks of any meaningful consequence, the stamps on the whole appear fully defined and crisp, quickly allowing the edge filing noted on the holder to become relatively inconsequential. It is curious to wonder if this type was meant as a pair with Kann-B92, much as is now believed to be the case between Kann-B13 and Kann-B14. Such belief rests on Kann's misattribution of the figures illustrated on these two types, who he stated to be Kuang-hsü and Lun Yu, but who are more likely Prince Zai Feng and Empress Ci Xi. Much as the dragon and phoenix on Kann-B13 and Kann-B14 mirror and complement each other, so does the prominence of the symbol of longevity, the character shou, on Kann-B90 and Kann-B92, seen here surrounded by five bats (the Chinese name for which, Fu, is pronounced the same as the word for good fortune).
