Son of Demetrios II of Macedonia, he allied with the Carthaginians against Rome but he accepted a peace with the roman general Titio Quinctius Flamininus after the defeat of Cynoscephalae near Pharsalos. He maintened the throne for the roman will against barbarian advances. After his death, Perseus, his son, came to throne and he sided against Rome, suffering a serious defeat and parading as prisoner during the Aemilius Paullus' triumph.
