Communion Token Articles, Heavily Annotated
Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SOCIETY OF ANTIQUARIES OF SCOTLAND. Seven volumes, bound in six as published: LXXV (1940-1941); LXXIX (1944-1945); LXXX-LXXXI (1945-1946 and 1946-1947, bound in one volume); LXXXIV (1949-1950); LXXXVII (1952-1953); and XCV (1961-1962). 8vo, original blue cloth or cloth-backed boards; spines lettered in gilt. Over 1500 pages; well-illustrated. Articles on tokens in each volume have been annotated, sometimes heavily, by Andrew Macmillan. Very good to near fine. Articles on communion tokens and related subjects include "Unpublished Tokens of the Church of Scotland," by R. Kerr and J.R. Lockie; "Communion Tokens of the Free Church of Scotland," by Kerr and Lockie; "Scottish Episcopal Communion Tokens," by Kerr and J.A. Lamb; "Unpublished Communion Tokens of Various Scottish Churches," by Kerr and Lockie; "Further Unpublished Scottish Communion Tokens," by Kerr and Lockie; and "Scottish Beggars Badges," by Kerr and Lockie. The 1949-1950 volume also includes articles on "Crosraguel" pennies and Roman coins found in Scotland, by Robert B.K. Stevenson and Anne S. Robertson, respectively, while the 1961-1962 volume includes an article by R.H.M. Dolley on a medieval coin hoard found at Tom a'Bhuraich in Aberdeenshire. Every token article is annotated by Andrew Macmillan, often heavily.
