1859-1862 Bangs Sales
Bangs, Merwin & Co. TEN EARLY NUMISMATIC AUCTION CATALOGUES. Includes catalogues dated: December 15, 1859 (partly priced); November 21-22, 1860 (priced); November 23, 1860; December 13-14, 1860; March 26, 1862 (priced); May 8-9, 1862 (priced); August 7, 1862; September 22, 1862; November 28, 1862; and January 19-23, 1863. All 8vo, mostly in original printed paper covers. A couple of catalogues are stained or otherwise the worse for wear; mostly very good or better. A nice group of early Bangs catalogues, most of them derived from the John W. Adams Library and purchased in Kolbe Sale 100. The November 21-22, 1860 sale offered material from the collections of William C. Prime and Benjamin Haines, and is Adams 6 in his enumeration of the Bangs series. The November 28, 1862 sale is the earliest catalogue I recall seeing offering rolls of American coins at auction. The January 19-23, 1863 sale was the Benjamin Haines collection and is Adams 8.
