Friesner (Adams 23) catalogue is very scarce, as are those of F. Merritt Alden (Adams 50) and P.S. Bonney (Adams 52), with several others also being infrequently offered. Adams 51 is the M.A. Brown sale, which was to be the first Chapman catalogue issued with actual photographic prints as plates (all of the earlier Chapman sale plates had been produced by various photographic printing processes); the government, however, objected to the reproduction of U.S. coinage via photographs, and the plans were scrapped. It took nearly a decade before the disagreement was resolved. Ex Cardinal Collection Library.
