The Levick Plate, Then & Now
Levick, J.N.T. [compiler]. TYPES AND VARIETIES OF THE U.S. CENT, 1793. Unmounted albumen plate, as published in the April 1869 issue of the American Journal of Numismatics. 22 by 15.5 cm. Folds and tape repairs. Good to very good, with clear images. [with] Neiswinter, James A. [compiler]. TYPES AND VARIETIES OF THE U.S. CENT, 1793. 8.5 by 11 photographic print depicting the 15 obverses and 11 reverses that together create the 22 varieties of 1793 large cent, along with a listing of the die combinations, Sheldon and Breen numbers, and rarity ratings. As new. An original of the remarkable photograph arranged by J.N.T. Levick, depicting 12 obverses and 10 reverses of 1793 cents from famous collections of the day, with die links. The large cent photograph here present is a good example of the second issue of this plate. Rarely encountered outside of the original publication. The second item is an attractive photographic plate that brings together high-grade examples of all known die varieties of 1793 large cents, with die linkages indicated and the relevant attributions and rarities listed alongside. Ex Jim Neiswinter Library
