Nearly Complete Steigerwalt Journal
Steigerwalt, Chas. STEIGERWALT'S COIN JOURNAL. A BI-MONTHLY MAGAZINE DEVOTED TO NUMISMATICS. Volume I, Nos. 2-5 and Volume II, Nos. 1-2 (Lancaster, September 1883-March 1884 and September 1884-December 1884). Six issues, lacking Volume I, Nos. 1 and 6 for completion. 8vo, removed from previous binding, and mostly still sewn as one text block (first issues loose). Lacks original printed paper covers. (23)-125, (1) + 61, (3) pages; lithographic coin illustrations. Good to very good. Bourne 1880-21. Rarely offered. The Salutatory of the journal proclaimed: "In again entering the fields of numismatic journalism, we hope that in presenting our old Coin Journal in a new and attractive form, our friends will encourage our present venture as they did its predecessor. It will be our endeavor to make it bright, interesting and spicy, and so desirable to collectors that each number will be cherished and its successor eagerly looked for." This publication is an interesting combination of numismatic commentary and listings of coins for sale, though, unfortunately, it was even more short-lived than its predecessor.
