Aeneas in military dress advancing, right, looking back, leading Ascanius by hand and carrying Anchises on shoulder towards galley prow.

Aeneas is the son of Troy prince Anchises and Aphrodite. Legend has it that Aeneas fled Troy, taking his father Ankises on his shoulders and holding his son's hand. He took shelter on the slopes of Mount Ida and built a ship here. He played an important role in the establishment of Rome by passing to the opposite shores with the ship.
