The Pompeians. Sextus Pompeius, 43-35 BC. AR denarius (20 mm; 3,69 g). Military mint in Sicily, circa 37-36 BC. Bare head of Pompeius Magnus right, lituus before and capis behind / Neptune standing left, nude but for chlamys on left arm, holding apluster and resting right foot on prow; Neptune flanked by the Catanaean brothers Anapias and Amphinomus running in opposite directions, both carrying their parents on their shoulders. Struck with slightly worn dies an light bend on flan. A fine portrait of Pompeius the Great.
