Brazil, silver, 40 Réis, Bahia mint (no mint mark), no date (1696). Narrow crown, vertical flower. Very rare coin with most examples showing heavy wear, significant damage or a combination thereof. Al the details preserved, rare coin and grade. Bentes 88.03. Beautiful VF.
The greatest part of the 20 and 40 réis coins in silver, soon replaced by their equivalent in copper, are pierced. Some people believe these coins were holed to be used as pendants during baptisms, for they were small and contained a cross. A rare chance to obtain a coin from this series, with no damage.
