France. Napoleon I, 1804-1814. Napoleon's cabinet containing 135 Bronze Medals relating conquests and battles. Cabinet's Sizes: Height, 110mm. Depth, 235 mm. Width, 340 mm. About Uncirculated to Uncirculated.
Original cabinet in dark green leather with antique ornaments (griffons, leaves, flowers, etc) previously gilded, Imperial Arms in the center surrounded by «Médailles, Règne de Napoléon» and completed by a latin sentence: «Gratius Sibi Illum Esse Facturum Si Se Oblivisci Quam Si Meminisse Docuisset». Two brass handles and a front locket without key.
The cabinet contains eight turquoise trays numbered and inscribed «Tablette». Seven trays include 135 different bronze Medals, most of them uncirculated, in different sizes, relating the reign of Napoleon I. The last tray is empty and was probably used to examinate the medals. The top's inside is in turquoise satin and the trays are covered by a green velvet.
The entire is in an amazing condition, never seen before! However, the cabinet presents some accidents. It's probably the first time that an original cabinet with all its medals is presented in a Public Auction. Viewing by appointment is highly recommended. Special delivery on request.
Estimate: €20000 - 30000
