The Abbey «Notre Dame de Staouëli» was a monastery in Algeria, created in 1843 by Trappist Monks and erected in an Abbey in July 11, 1846 by Monseigneur Louis-Antoine Augustin Pavy. Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916), an officer of the French Army in North Africa before he becames a catholic religious and priest living among the Tuareg in the Sahara in Algeria was there. The Monks left the abbey in 1904.
